The Environmental and Conservation Sciences (ECS) graduate program offers both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees through an interdisciplinary curriculum and collaborative approach. It highlights the unifying principles across scientific disciplines while breaking down barriers that could limit cross-disciplinary collaboration. Students can choose from three specialized tracks: Environmental Science, Conservation Biology, or Environmental Social Sciences. The Environmental Science concentration addresses physical environmental challenges like pollution of water, air, and soil. Conservation Biology deals with living systems, focusing on biodiversity protection and ecosystem health. The Environmental Social Sciences track centers on policy-making and economic aspects of environmental issues.
This program's cross-disciplinary character is demonstrated by faculty involvement from diverse academic units, including the Colleges of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Natural Resources; Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; Engineering; and Science and Mathematics.
