Students in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program gain skills for careers in diverse environments including community health organizations, educational institutions, family support centers, and both public and private mental health facilities. The curriculum covers essential subjects such as Professional Ethics, Multicultural Counseling Approaches, Group Therapy Methods, Therapeutic Interventions, Counseling Theory, Diagnostic Assessment for Mental Health Professionals, and Advanced Clinical Evaluation.

This specialization mandates at least 60 graduate-level credits and a final examination. M.Ed. candidates fulfill 100 practicum hours plus 900 internship hours, while M.S. candidates complete 100 practicum hours, 600 internship hours, and a research thesis. The program generally spans three academic years.

Interview
If a prospective master's student's application demonstrates potential, faculty members will invite her or him to an on-campus interview. During the interview, students will gain more information about the Counselor Education Program, complete a writing exercise, participate in a role play activity, and meet with current students. After the interview, faculty members will make admissions and advising recommendations to the Graduate School, and students will be notified of their status.
