The Department of Soil Science within the School of Natural Resource Sciences provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, preparing students for careers in agricultural and environmental fields. The curriculum and research focus on soil-plant-atmosphere relationships and their practical applications in managing soil and water resources. Degree specializations include soil chemistry, fertility, ecology, physics, reclamation, genesis and morphology, management and conservation, environmental modeling, water quality, as well as soil salinity and sodicity. Additionally, students can pursue M.S. or Ph.D. degrees in Natural Resources Management or Environmental and Conservation Science with a soil science concentration.
Typically, the M.S. program takes 24 months of full-time study and research to complete, whereas the Ph.D. requires at least 36 months. Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 throughout their studies.
