Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry provides graduate programs culminating in Master of Science (M.S.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees in Chemistry. Upon beginning their first year, new graduate students undergo entrance assessments covering analytical, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry, along with biochemistry. These evaluations assist the graduate progress committee in advising students on their initial coursework, allowing for personalized academic plans. Generally, M.S. candidates finish required courses within 12-18 months, while Ph.D. students complete theirs in about two years, dedicating subsequent years exclusively to thesis or dissertation work. On average, students complete their M.S. in three years and their Ph.D. in roughly five years.
