Pharmacists rank among the most readily available healthcare professionals in modern medicine. Each week, over 200 million individuals—almost two-thirds of the U.S. population—visit pharmacies across the nation. With more than 50,000 locations operating extended hours, pharmacists stand prepared to assist the public with comprehensive medication needs. Historically, pharmacists have served as the initial point of contact for numerous health inquiries. In today's healthcare landscape, they're taking on expanded roles to enhance societal health outcomes. The pharmacy field has adopted a patient-centered approach known as pharmaceutical care, which involves pharmacists dedicating themselves to designing, implementing, and overseeing medication regimens to optimize treatment results and ultimately enhance patients' lives. At NDSU's School of Pharmacy, this pharmaceutical care model is integrated throughout the academic program, equipping future pharmacists with the necessary skills to implement this modern practice approach. The curriculum fosters pharmaceutical care competencies while highlighting analytical reasoning, effective communication, ethical awareness, and continuous professional development.
