The NDSU Challey School of Music boasts exceptional students, dedicated faculty, skilled staff, and top-tier facilities. Continuously accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music since 1970, the program maintains a rich legacy of outstanding ensembles tracing back to 1904. Our faculty and staff are passionate about delivering exceptional musical experiences for all NDSU students, whether pursuing professional careers or simply exploring musical interests. The Challey School provides the region's most diverse degree options, ranging from liberal arts with music focuses to specialized bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs. Music undergraduates study core subjects like theory, literature, history, and conducting while receiving personalized instrument/voice instruction and participating in premier ensembles. Additional coursework aligns with each student's specialization. All programs emphasize applied studies to refine musical skills and performance capabilities, with private lesson availability based on demonstrated talent and instructor availability. The Bachelor of Music in Performance prepares graduates for professional stages or advanced studies, offering concentrations in instrumental, vocal, or piano disciplines.
