The Mathematics Department provides a comprehensive and diverse range of courses delivered by 19 faculty members. Students can pursue majors in either mathematics or mathematics education, with the option to complement their studies through minors in related fields. These academic decisions can be finalized early or postponed until foundational coursework is finished. Beyond the Bachelor of Science program, the department also grants master's and doctoral degrees. Mathematics Education majors receive training to instruct varied student groups across an extensive curriculum. As the fundamental language of scientific and technological fields, mathematics stands as one of the most ancient and refined disciplines, offering students one of the most stimulating and fulfilling academic pursuits in modern times. Mathematics education students should maintain regular contact with advisors to ensure their general education courses adequately support their advanced major coursework. This degree equips graduates to teach grades 7-12 both domestically and abroad. A mathematics major also holds significant value for employers across government and private sectors. Educators may opt to pursue graduate studies after gaining teaching experience, with advanced degrees potentially leading to college-level positions or leadership opportunities in educational institutions at state and national levels.
