The Department of Mathematics provides a comprehensive and diverse range of courses led by 19 faculty members. Students can pursue majors in either mathematics or mathematics education, with options to add minors in related disciplines. These academic decisions can be finalized after completing foundational coursework. Beyond the Bachelor of Science program, the department also grants master's and doctoral degrees. Recent years have seen growing demand for mathematical expertise across multiple disciplines including actuarial science, computer science, statistics, engineering, economics, and business. Those with mathematical aptitude will discover both intellectual stimulation and professional prospects within NDSU's Mathematics Department. Faculty advisors guide students through course selection, degree planning, and career pathways in mathematics. The Cooperative Education Program enables students to earn academic credit through professional work experiences. Through the Math Club, students engage with guest speakers discussing both theoretical concepts and practical career applications. Additional learning opportunities include paper grading and tutoring positions, which reinforce mathematical knowledge while helping fellow students.
