The department engages in teaching, research, and outreach as core professional functions. Its program serves as an educational hub, research facility, and information resource for food science across North Carolina and beyond. The department hosts two specialized research facilities: the Southeast Dairy Foods Research Center and the Center for Advanced Processing and Packaging Studies. Students can pursue coursework and research in diverse fields including biochemistry, food engineering, microbiology, nutritional sciences, and processing technologies. Admissions rules require that an applicant have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
have successfully (cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher) completed at least one year of full-time study in a degree program at a regionally accredited four-year US College or university.
