The Department of Forest Biomaterials is advancing the wood products and sustainable materials sector through innovative research. Our studies cover the full range of manufacturing and business operations, with initiatives examining various production elements, analytical methods, management strategies, and marketing approaches. Previous investigations have involved creating Resilient Home designs, establishing business networks for wood products, and developing eco-friendly supply chains for solid wood fuels. Our expertise extends beyond conventional wood products like lumber, furniture, and veneer to include composite materials such as engineered timber, insulation panels, and particleboard. Additionally, we possess specialized knowledge in wood fiber applications and wood-derived chemicals including lignin, cellulose, and extractives. Our research also explores sustainable non-wood bio-based materials, allowing our faculty to broaden their areas of specialization.
