This specialization centers on creating novel and groundbreaking products, standing out as the most interdisciplinary and adaptable among the three TE concentrations. Students have the opportunity to specialize in a particular field of interest, such as biomedical materials, athletic textiles, composite materials, sustainable practices, or mechanical design. Graduates may develop advanced performance fabrics for sports professionals or travel internationally to verify product reliability prior to global distribution. Those in the Product Engineering track master the basics of materials and gain comprehensive education in polymer and fiber science principles. Furthermore, they explore the connections between processing techniques and the properties of yarns and two-dimensional fabric constructions. As part of their studies, students also acquire knowledge in Six Sigma, a methodology for enhancing quality and processes. The program supports students in achieving their individual academic objectives via summer internships, study abroad opportunities, culminating senior design projects, and undergraduate research initiatives.
