Science, Technology and Society (STS) is a multidisciplinary academic domain investigating how contemporary scientific and technological advancements influence cultural norms, societal values, and institutional frameworks, while also exploring how societal values reciprocally shape scientific and technological progress. STS analyzes the genesis of scientific and technological developments, their integration into society, their evolution through social interactions, and society's adaptation to these innovations. Key examples demonstrate these interconnections: Biotechnology: Genetic research and engineering enables unprecedented human control over life itself. Modifying the DNA of organisms—and potentially humans—could fundamentally transform our relationship with the natural world. Globalization & Economic Competition: Intensifying global economic rivalry foreshadows a digitally interconnected world culture facilitated by computing networks, satellite systems, and online platforms. Digital Revolution: The rapid adoption of computer-based communication represents one of history's most transformative technological shifts, potentially redefining concepts of community, individual identity, and global information exchange. Military Technology and Global Security: Despite geopolitical changes, weapons proliferation persists. Nuclear arsenals, advanced delivery systems, chemical/biological weapons, and increasingly lethal conventional arms pose urgent challenges for global security.
