Political science involves the systematic examination of governance, political systems, and policy development. Earning a degree in political science serves as an ideal pathway for those aspiring to careers in government, nonprofits, legal fields, corporations, NGOs, or global institutions. NCSU's political science majors gain unique advantages from the university's close proximity to state legislative bodies, administrative offices, governmental departments, political party centers, campaign strategy firms, policy research institutes, and activist groups. Those with STEM interests can opt for the Bachelor of Science track, while Bachelor of Arts candidates may specialize in one of four focus areas: American Politics Specialization: Courses explore civic engagement, electoral behavior, interest group politics, campaign strategies, and the functioning of U.S. political structures. Global Affairs Specialization: This pathway covers worldwide challenges, defense policies, economic relations between nations, legal frameworks for international relations, American diplomacy, and cross-national government comparisons. Legal Studies Specialization: Investigate the intersection of jurisprudence and governance across domestic and international contexts, examining court procedures, legal professionals' roles, constitutional principles, transnational legal systems, and philosophical foundations of legal theory. Policy Analysis Specialization: This curriculum evaluates ethical considerations, organizational frameworks, and decision-making mechanisms involved in creating, executing, and assessing policies at all governmental levels, utilizing interdisciplinary methods and analytical tools.
