The Integrated Design & Media (IDM) program (previously called Integrated Digital Media) encourages innovative creative work, design exploration, and cross-disciplinary experimentation with cutting-edge media technologies. Operating as a research-driven initiative within NYU Tandon School of Engineering, IDM professors work together on studies that bridge digital media and societal impact. Our initiatives span from employing motion capture to reinvent stage performances, to pioneering new applications of VR/AR for health improvement, to incorporating STEAM education into special education programs, to creating community science platforms enabling New Yorkers to track and document noise pollution, to supporting NASA JPL in designing advanced interfaces for space missions, to aiding in the discovery and presentation of NYC's archival history.
Our instructors consist of prominent artists, designers, technologists, and performers who actively pursue professional projects and academic investigations where engineering meets artistic expression.
