The Master of Science in Biology offers comprehensive training in contemporary biological sciences, covering specialized areas such as cellular biology, molecular biology, microbiology, physiology, neuroscience, immunology, genetics, genomics, and systems biology. This flexible program accommodates both part-time and full-time students, allowing them to customize their academic journey by designing personalized course sequences and research projects. Participants benefit from interdisciplinary partnerships across NYU's academic units, including the Chemistry and Physics departments, NYU Langone Medical School, the College of Dentistry, the Center for Neural Science, the Courant Institute for Mathematical Sciences, and the New York Genome Center. While most students complete the degree in 1.5 to 2 years, accelerated completion within one year is possible through increased course loads.
The Oral Biology specialization, jointly administered by the Biology Department and NYU College of Dentistry, serves two primary objectives: enhancing pre-dental students' scientific preparation to improve their dental school admission prospects, and providing practicing dentists with advanced research training for academic or industry careers. This program equips dental professionals with cutting-edge research methodologies and technological expertise, ultimately elevating patient care through deeper understanding of biological principles relevant to dental practice.
