The Department of Classics provides advanced degree programs for both Master's and Doctoral candidates. Alongside the Inter-University Doctoral Consortium (detailed in the Admission section), the department collaborates with City University of New York and Fordham University through a consortium agreement, granting NYU classics graduate students access to courses across all three institutions.
At NYU, the Classics Department maintains strong connections with multiple academic centers and programs including the Center for Ancient Studies, Onassis Program in Hellenic Studies, Institute for the Study of the Ancient World, Institute of Fine Arts, Museum Studies Program, Religious Studies Program, Comparative Literature Department, Poetics and Theory Program, and the Medieval and Renaissance Center. The Aquila Theatre Company, based in London and New York, holds permanent residency at the Center for Ancient Studies.

For admission a general knowledge of ancient history and literature and reasonable competence in reading both Greek and Latin prose and poetry are required, as indicated by the successful completion of an undergraduate major in classics or its equivalent.For the TOEFL, the Graduate School recommends that the applicant achieve a minimum TOEFL score of 100 on the internet-based test. For the IELTS, a minimum overall band score of at least 7 is recommended.
