The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is an advanced research degree, demonstrating the holder's capability to perform autonomous investigations while possessing both wide-ranging foundational knowledge across economics and specialized expertise in a specific field. The program prepares graduates with contemporary economic methodologies, empowering them to assume leadership roles in research across academia, industry, and government sectors.
The Economics Department has gained distinction in recent years by recruiting world-class scholars and maintaining selective admission standards. Several factors contribute to our ability to provide an exceptional academic environment. Our faculty includes seven Econometric Society Fellows and one Nobel Prize winner. Numerous members have held editorial positions at prestigious journals such as the American Economic Review, Econometrica, the Review of Economic Studies, and the Journal of Economic Theory. Notably, our department ranks within the top ten economics departments according to Tilburg University's global assessment.
