Genomics and Systems Biology are fast-growing disciplines where specialized areas are still taking shape. Genomic research is rooted in examining DNA sequences and their biological outputs. Beginning with full genome maps of various species, functional and evolutionary genomics employs advanced experimental techniques and computational methods—including extensive RNA and protein analysis, genetic manipulation, and species comparisons—to understand gene roles, genetic network architectures, and their evolution across development, disease states, and different life forms. Systems Biology combines diverse genomic datasets to create models of genetic networks, enabling scientists to formulate hypotheses about system behaviors, functions, and dynamic processes in living organisms.
