Our Bachelor of Science program is built upon the IDM core curriculum, featuring specialized courses in four key disciplines: Image, Sound, Narrative, and Interactivity. These foundational classes are complemented by advanced electives spanning user experience design, augmented reality, motion capture, and more, alongside Tandon's engineering requirements, media studies from MCC, and supplementary coursework in math, science, humanities, and social sciences.
The program emphasizes hands-on, project-driven learning that cultivates socially conscious creators skilled in emerging technologies. IDM scholars have opportunities to pursue research and refine their craft through coursework, capstone projects, Tandon's VIP and InnoVention initiatives, NYU's entrepreneurial resources, and internships across NYC's vibrant media landscape.
As an innovative research hub within NYU Tandon, IDM faculty pioneer interdisciplinary projects bridging digital media and societal impact. Our work encompasses diverse applications - from revolutionizing theater through motion capture to creating VR/AR health solutions, implementing STEAM education for special needs, designing citizen science tools for noise pollution monitoring, collaborating with NASA JPL on space exploration interfaces, to preserving NYC's historical archives through advanced visualization techniques.
Through the Department of Technology, Culture and Society, driven students can leverage the School of Engineering's BS/MS pathway to efficiently earn both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Integrated Design and Media via the accelerated BS/MS Program.
While fulfilling all degree requirements is mandatory, the path varies based on factors like AP credits, summer course availability, and academic progress. Given the customized nature of the BS/MS track, prospective students should schedule a consultation with their Academic Advisor to explore this opportunity.
