Biology seeks to unravel the mysteries of life in its countless manifestations. The Biology Department boasts cutting-edge facilities where renowned faculty advance scientific discovery while training future researchers and healthcare experts. Our academic programs cover the full spectrum of contemporary biology, examining everything from microscopic organisms to complex plants and animals, and investigating phenomena from molecular interactions to genetic inheritance, developmental processes, animal behavior, and evolutionary patterns.
Throughout their education, students engage with current theories and advanced techniques, progressing from foundational classes to specialized upper-level courses that delve deeply into key biological disciplines. Every Biology student receives personalized guidance from a departmental faculty advisor who helps tailor coursework to individual academic aspirations and professional objectives. These mentors also assist students in pursuing enriching academic opportunities, including research projects and study abroad programs.
The Biology major offers three distinct pathways. The general Biology option provides comprehensive training, equipping students with essential laboratory techniques, quantitative skills, and critical thinking abilities for modern biological sciences. The Ecology concentration maintains this broad biological foundation while specializing in ecological principles, methodologies, and data analysis. The Global Public Health/Biology dual major establishes robust expertise in both biological sciences and public health, allowing specialization in one of three focus areas: genetic and genomic studies, communicable diseases, or environmental health sciences.
