The Gallatin School of Individualized Study and Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service provide a combined degree option allowing students to obtain a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Gallatin's Individualized Major alongside a Master of Urban Planning (MUP) from Wagner in a shorter timeframe than pursuing each degree independently. This intensive program encourages academically gifted students passionate about creating sustainable urban environments, land use strategies, community revitalization, housing solutions, and infrastructure development to refine their educational path. BA candidates at Gallatin progressing to the MUP can concentrate on either City and Community Planning or International Development Planning. Following undergraduate completion, participants typically finish their MUP requirements within one to two additional years at Wagner. The combined BA-MUP program requires 152 credits total, compared to 173 credits if pursued separately.
While Gallatin students in this dual-degree initiative may enroll in graduate-level courses during their undergraduate studies, this doesn't automatically secure admission to Wagner's MUP program. Prospective MUP candidates must submit a standard Wagner graduate application during their final year at Gallatin. All Gallatin applicants will be evaluated against the same rigorous Wagner admissions criteria, which assess academic excellence and meaningful practical experience (including internships, volunteer roles, and employment).
