The combined undergraduate program in Global Liberal Studies (GLS) and Global Public Health (GPH) allows students to examine diverse academic subjects centered on public health concerns and liberal arts from an international perspective. GPH's foundational courses immerse students in analyzing worldwide health challenges, while GLS's creative curriculum helps them connect these topics to broader fields like law, ethics, religion, politics, human rights, and economic development.
Through GLS, students adopt a humanities-focused perspective on global issues by examining influential literary works, arts, political systems, philosophical ideas, and historical events across cultures. All GLS classes follow a seminar format led by dedicated professors who enhance lessons with visits to cultural institutions and historic sites. Students choose from six specialization areas, building knowledge to comprehend globalization. During their junior year, GLS participants apply classroom theories through an extended study abroad experience at one of NYU's international campuses, supplemented by practical internships or fieldwork. In their final year, students synthesize their global learning into an honors thesis, developed with faculty guidance, that connects cultural insights to broader worldwide frameworks while addressing their specific interests in global studies and public health.
