The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences provides an interdisciplinary studies major for undergraduates with distinctive cross-disciplinary academic objectives. This customized program is collaboratively developed by the student, a faculty review committee, and an academic advisor. Resulting in either a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree, the major comprises 36 to 48 credits of carefully selected courses that form a cohesive program bridging multiple academic fields. The diploma specifically notes this specialized focus area. Each interdisciplinary studies major features personalized learning objectives while fulfilling the College's liberal arts and sciences curriculum requirements. This degree option especially appeals to students interested in building academic concentrations around the College's cross-disciplinary initiatives, such as Classical Studies and U.S. Latino/a Studies, where faculty have established structured interdisciplinary pathways.
Learners have collaborated with professors to create Interdisciplinary Studies programs in diverse fields including International Relations, Ecological Studies, African American Cultural Studies, Asian Studies, and Cognitive Science. Presently, students are partnering with faculty to develop interdisciplinary curricula in emerging areas like Climate Science and Health Sciences.
