Make a difference in future generations by serving as an engaged and attentive school counselor. Develop skills to support diverse learners, navigate cultural environments, and partner with educators, families, and communities.
Emphasizing culturally aware counseling and equity, the School Counseling, M.S. program prepares you to be a caring, impactful champion for pre-K12 students' academic, social, and emotional growth.
You'll build comprehensive knowledge of current school counseling priorities such as leadership development, group therapy techniques, supporting special education students, college advising, and addressing school safety concerns. Hands-on training comes through supervised practicums and internships with experienced counselors in pre-K12 environments.
Our program includes an optional Bilingual Extension that can be pursued alongside your degree. This specialization requires six extra credits and bilingual field experience to equip you for working with English Language Learners and their families. For NYSED certification, candidates must demonstrate language proficiency by passing the New York State Bilingual Assessment (BEA). Complete your studies in two years full-time or extend to three years with part-time enrollment.
