The Production Concentration immerses students in both the artistic and technical facets of filmmaking, covering creative production and practical line producing. Starting with foundational knowledge, the program explores the responsibilities, challenges, and workflows of film and TV producers. Students gain hands-on training in physical production and post-production, study narrative techniques, structural conventions, and stylistic approaches, and learn the fundamentals of entertainment law. As part of this foundational phase, participants collaborate on a short film and a reality TV project. They'll also schedule a film from the ground up, create their own short film, and develop either a feature-length fiction film, documentary, or television series.
In the advanced portion of the concentration, students refine their skills through higher-level projects, crafting treatments and pitching ideas to industry experts. Additionally, they must produce a short film for an NYFA-affiliated filmmaker. The program concludes with each student presenting a Final Pitch of their feature film or TV series to a professional panel for evaluation. Alongside their creative work, students must also develop a detailed business plan for their proposed projects.
