The increasing number of cross-border issues and interactions that transcend national boundaries has led to the emergence of innovative governance frameworks operating globally, regionally, and locally. This development coincides with heightened recognition of human rights as fundamental principles that unite and define our shared humanity.
The Governance and Rights program examines the foundational ideas, organizations, participants, and discussions driving these contemporary governance approaches. It empowers students to thoughtfully analyze these shifting paradigms in societal organization and restructuring, alongside emerging standards within novel frameworks and connections. Instructors particularly highlight the dynamics of influence, decision-making authority, and the credibility of governing systems across local, national, and international spheres.
Courses in Governance and Rights provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical abilities concerning subjects like human rights, population movements, global institutions, and nation-building. Enrolled students may also pursue specialized coursework at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, covering areas such as international legal systems, human rights legislation, and health policy law. The program offers extensive research and hands-on experience opportunities, leveraging both New York City's network of governance-focused institutions and international field study locations worldwide.
