The Master of Arts in General Psychology is a 30-credit graduate program offering foundational knowledge in psychology, serving as preparation for advanced doctoral studies.
The curriculum encompasses diverse psychological disciplines such as cognitive processes, social behavior, human development, psychopathology, brain science, research methodologies, and statistical analysis.
Upon admission, each student is paired with a faculty mentor who collaborates with the departmental advisor to guide them through the program structure and tailor coursework to align with their academic goals. Learners can select from numerous elective offerings throughout The New School for Social Research to complement the mandatory general psychology core requirements.
The program also features an optional specialization track in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Counseling, meeting the educational prerequisites for future licensure as a substance abuse counselor.

Qualification Requirements
Graduate degree applicants must hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or the equivalent degree from a foreign college or university. Applicants who will have completed their bachelor's degree by the time of enrollment may apply for admission. PhD applicants in Economics, Philosophy, Politics, and Sociology must hold a master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university or the equivalent degree from a foreign college or university.

Records from non-U.S. institutions must have grades or marks and contain a copy of diploma if the degree has been conferred. Make sure your name appears on the transcript/record. Scanned documents must be clear and legible.
