The Literature concentration in Lang's Literary Studies major teaches you to approach texts through both critical and creative lenses. You'll gain extensive knowledge of global literary traditions in English and translation while developing expertise as an analytical reader, writer, and thinker. The program examines diverse genres across cultures and historical eras, covering poetry, fiction, nonfiction, and dramatic works.
Literature concentration courses help you develop:
Advanced literacy through intensive engagement with literary texts
Critical writing abilities for analyzing primary works and scholarly sources while supporting arguments with evidence
Enhanced interpretive techniques including close reading, structural examination of artistic works, and logical evaluation
Sophisticated awareness of diverse human experiences across different eras and cultures
You can choose to investigate genres across languages and historical contexts or focus deeply on specific regions or time periods in preparation for your senior thesis. While most courses are English-based, Literature students frequently supplement their studies with foreign language classes or TESL coursework.

Letters of Recommendation
Applicants applying directly from high school must submit one counselor recommendation and one recommendation from a teacher. The Common Application School Report is also required.
Submit Official Transcripts
All applicants must provide official high school and/or college transcripts from all institutions attended. Undergraduate applicants who have attended multiple high schools can submit only the graduating school's official transcript as long as all prior coursework is listed on that transcript.
International Baccalaureate (IB): Students can pursue either the IB Diploma Program (DP) or IB Career-related Program (CP). Applicants who are taking individual IB courses as a supplement to a national curriculum are permitted to pursue individual IB courses rather than the DP or CP.
Minimum required scores are:
TOEFL iBT- 100, IELTS - 7.5, PTE - 68
