The Department of Geological Sciences provides graduate programs culminating in a Master of Science degree in geology. Students benefit from state-of-the-art laboratory resources for research across various geological disciplines including mineralogy, igneous petrology, geochemistry, stratigraphy, geochronology, and sedimentology. Facilities feature a comprehensive rock preparation lab, mineral separation lab, alongside dedicated computer, geochemical, and petrographic workspaces. Key equipment encompasses a Gemeni heavy mineral separation table, a class 1000 clean room, Thermal Ionization Mass Spectrometry (TIMS), and Laser-Ablation Multi-Collector Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-MC-ICP-MS). The department operates its own fleet of field vehicles and provides computing resources with an HP color plotter and GIS capabilities. Graduate students may receive financial assistance through teaching and research assistantships or scholarships. Those interested in funding opportunities should contact the graduate advisor. Program admission follows the standard guidelines set by the Graduate School.
