The Department of Art provides graduate programs including a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art and a Master of Arts specializing in Art History. Students pursuing these degrees engage in tailored study plans, complemented by core curriculum and guidance from faculty advisors. Those focusing on Art History may specialize in subjects ranging from Medieval to Modern Western European art, as well as Indigenous American art traditions. Master of Fine Arts candidates are urged to explore interdisciplinary approaches while developing their creative practice within contemporary artistic discourse. A student seeking admission to graduate school at NMSU must hold a minimum of a bachelor's degree or an advanced degree from a regionally accredited institution. The academic program of the completed degree should be equivalent to a comparable NMSU degree's requirements.
