The Civil Engineering Department provides outstanding prospects for advanced education and professional development across multiple disciplines, awarding M.E. in Civil Engineering, M.S. in Civil Engineering, M.S. in Environmental Engineering, and Ph.D. degrees. Students collaborate directly with faculty on cutting-edge topics such as machine/deep learning applications, biogeotechnologies, crop and riparian vegetation evapotranspiration monitoring, ground stabilization techniques, groundwater replenishment, advanced materials, non-destructive testing, remote sensing technologies, renewable energy solutions, infrastructure resilience, reservoir evaporation studies, riparian restoration, structural health assessment, sustainable building practices, and water treatment/recycling.
The department boasts state-of-the-art teaching and research facilities, featuring specialized labs for mechanical, chemical, and biological investigations. Furthermore, faculty and students conduct field research at multiple New Mexico locations in partnership with local, state, and federal organizations. The graduate programs are distinguished by their dynamic, dedicated faculty and favorable student-to-instructor ratios. Numerous research initiatives of varying scales consistently engage both graduate and undergraduate students. Qualified candidates may receive teaching or research assistantships, with office space typically allocated to those pursuing M.S. theses or Ph.D. dissertations.
