The Civil Engineering Department provides graduate studies across two locations: the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and University of Nebraska at Omaha, separated by about 50 miles. Students have access to specialized facilities such as materials and geotechnical laboratories, environmental and transportation research spaces, plus the renowned vehicle crash test center near Lincoln Airport. The structures lab features advanced capabilities for full-scale testing, including gravity, seismic, and wind load simulations on bridges and buildings.

Applicants to the Office of Graduate Studies whose native language is not English are required to submit a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 550 on the paper-based TOEFL, 79 on the Internet-based TOEFL or an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall band score of at least 6.5
