A physics or engineering physics bachelor's degree serves as a foundation for various career paths in industry, education, military service, government roles, or pursuing advanced degrees in physics or engineering. The program equips graduates with essential skills that physics alumni consistently rank as crucial for their professional success, such as analytical problem-solving, computational proficiency, mathematical expertise, hands-on laboratory experience, and comprehensive physics knowledge. Additional department details are available online at phys.nmsu.edu. New and transfer students must arrange an orientation session with either the department chair or undergraduate program director prior to their initial semester at NMSU. Each student will receive guidance from a designated physics faculty advisor regarding course planning, career development tools, internship/co-op opportunities, and related academic matters.
