A physics or engineering physics bachelor's degree serves as a foundation for various career paths in industry, education, military service, government roles, or pursuing advanced degrees in physics or engineering. The program equips graduates with essential skills that physics alumni consistently rank as crucial for their professional success, such as analytical problem-solving, computational proficiency, mathematical aptitude, laboratory expertise, and comprehensive physics knowledge. Additional department details are available online at phys.nmsu.edu. New and transfer students are required to arrange an orientation session with either the department chair or undergraduate program coordinator prior to their initial semester at NMSU. Each student will receive guidance from a designated physics faculty advisor regarding academic planning, career development opportunities, internship programs, cooperative education options, and related subjects.
