The Bachelor of Science in Architecture is a four-year pre-professional degree that opens doors to careers in the building industry and provides a pathway to advanced graduate programs in fields like Architecture, Infrastructure Planning, Civil Engineering, and Construction Management. As an Architecture department embedded in a research-focused university, we serve as a hub for cutting-edge innovation. Our research-oriented faculty enables students to engage in emerging fields spanning nanotechnology to augmented/virtual reality, while pushing boundaries in robotics and digital fabrication. The curriculum aligns with professional accreditation standards.

The Master of Infrastructure Planning is a rigorous one-year, studio-intensive program that cultivates skills in evaluating, strategizing, and shaping built environments at various scales. Infrastructure Planners serve as catalysts for transformation, shaping how global infrastructure systems are conceived, constructed, renovated, and maintained. Students will employ innovative methodologies including framework design, comprehensive planning, future envisioning, scenario modeling, and stakeholder analysis - developing expertise through hands-on design projects in both local and international settings. Project scopes vary from specific physical implementations to urban district reorganizations to visionary regional redesigns.

All first-year students who apply to NJIT must submit an official high school transcript. When evaluating your application for undergraduate admission, we are interested in understanding how you challenged yourself relative to the curriculum that was available at your school and the trends in your performance-for example, if your grades improved between your first-year and senior year.

We also consider the GPA that is indicated on your high school transcript. We generally look for students in the top 25% of their class. For schools that don't use a ranking system, we consider a 3.0 GPA or higher to be the equivalent.

Partaking in rigorous curricula, such as Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, can give you an additional advantage. The number of semester credits you will receive will depend on whether you earned a 3, 4, or 5 on your AP exams, or a grade of 5, 6, or 7 in IB subject areas. That score also determines which courses you will be exempt from taking at NJIT.
Our test-optional admissions policy was implemented in response to the scheduling challenges faced by many high school students taking the SAT and ACT tests due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Students who have taken the SAT or ACT are encouraged to submit test scores to be considered for endowed scholarships where scores may be required. However, students who do not submit scores will be considered for other scholarships.
Personal Essay
Included in the Common Application is an essay. The purpose of the essay is to assess your writing ability and, more importantly, to learn more about you as an individual. This portion of the application helps us get to know you, assess mutual fit and better understand what you could contribute to NJIT.

Letter of Recommendation

Counselors and teachers provide an external perspective about you as a person and applicant to NJIT. We expect you to provide us with all information pertinent to your application, while your recommender will provide an additional perspective/insight about you as a student.

The New Jersey School of Architecture (NJSOA) requires students to submit a portfolio of creative work as part of the NJIT admissions process. A portfolio conveys an applicant's visual awareness and reflects their potential for success in design education. The College considers the portfolio as only one of a number of factors when evaluating a candidate for admission, but submission is required. In some instances, a strong portfolio may make the difference between the College offering a place in the class or not.
All applicants applying as freshman to the New Jersey School of Architecture (NJSOA) must use the Common Application and submit the portfolio through the integrated SlideRoom app. Transfer applicants may submit work with SlideRoom without using the Common Application. Students who wish to transfer internally within the College of Architecture and Design, or from a different college within NJIT, must also submit a portfolio of creative work which may, if appropriate, include work done in courses at NJIT.
