The Mt. San Antonio College Interpreter Education Program aims to motivate students and create a supportive environment where they can develop fundamental skills for interpreting across diverse signing and non-signing communities. The program fosters professional qualities including equity awareness, ethical judgment, communication abilities, continuous learning, and global understanding, following the standards established by the Commission of Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE).

Sign Language Interpreters play vital roles in facilitating communication between various signing and non-signing groups. These professionals from different linguistic, cultural, and experiential backgrounds serve clients across multiple sectors, including video relay services, educational institutions, government offices, healthcare facilities, corporations, nonprofits, and private enterprises.

Upon completing the program, graduates are advised to pursue advanced education and practical experience. They may take certification exams like the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) or the Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI). Those with at least a bachelor's degree can attempt the National Interpreter Certification (NIC). While California doesn't mandate licensure for general interpreters, most employers and clients prefer certified professionals. Specific qualifications exist for educational interpreters. The curriculum provides students with essential interpreting competencies.
