The Departments of Linguistics and Computer Science collaborate to provide New Jersey's exclusive Master of Science in Computational Linguistics program. This two-year graduate degree requires 32 credits for completion. Applicants from all undergraduate backgrounds with an interest in language and technology are welcome. Participants gain access to cutting-edge research facilities supported by federal funding. Up to 11 prerequisite credits may be assigned after consultation with the Graduate Program Coordinator, with coursework tailored to each student's academic history. Computational linguistics merges linguistic study with software development, AI, and electrical engineering. Specialists in this field enable machines to interpret human language while assisting linguists in analyzing language through computational methods. As the most market-driven linguistics specialization, computational linguistics and its applied counterpart, Natural Language Processing (NLP), employ professionals across hundreds of U.S. companies developing language processing technologies.
