This specialized teacher certification program is designed for educators who currently hold general education certification (CEAS or Standard Certification) in a specific content area and seek to add special education credentials (Teacher of Students with Disabilities) while earning their master's degree. The curriculum focuses on inclusive teaching practices.

Important: New Jersey requires all special education instructors to maintain dual certification in both general education (P-3, K-6, or Content Area) and special education (Teacher of Students with Disabilities).

Candidates without general education certification or those holding P-3/K-6 credentials can pursue special education certification through alternative programs. Visit our teacher education and certification webpage for additional pathways, or explore our programs of study page for a complete overview of graduate offerings across the university.
