The Master of Arts in Composition provides advanced training to help students cultivate their unique artistic voices. Our curriculum encompasses diverse subjects such as classical and digital composition, orchestration, arrangement, counterpoint studies, stylistic analysis, and music history. Student compositions are regularly showcased in masterclasses and recitals attended by faculty, mentors, fellow students, and visiting artists. This program aims to equip students for professional music careers or doctoral studies. Our institution embraces all musical styles and approaches, reflected in our faculty's varied artistic perspectives. We motivate students to develop their individual compositional identities while exploring both traditional and contemporary musical expressions.

Qualification Requirements

The Graduate School requires the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor's degree in order to be eligible to apply for a graduate program. Applicants with non-U.S. degrees need not submit transcripts. Instead, they must submit a course-by-course evaluation along with U.S. degree equivalency information of their coursework from any member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or by Educated Choices.

Letters of Recommendation: Two.

A minimum TOEFL score of at least 83 on the internet-based test (iBT) or 62 on the paper-based test (pBT).
For IELTS test takers, the minimum required score is 6.5.
