The Ph.D. in Biological Sciences explores diverse ecological subjects, catering to students focused on either fundamental ecological theories or applied research excluding fisheries and wildlife management. This program is ideal for those pursuing research roles in government agencies or academic positions within ecology departments. The curriculum typically prioritizes core ecological concepts.
Each student's complete study plan is designed by their graduate committee in accordance with Graduate School standards, generally after passing the mandatory oral qualifying exam by the third semester. Current degree specifications can be found in the Graduate Catalog.
Credits earned during an M.S.U. master's program, beyond those counted toward that degree, may be applied toward subsequent master's or doctoral studies.
A Bachelor's degree in an area of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Applied Math or Psychology is recommended. Students with Bachelor’s degrees outside these areas are also encouraged to apply.
