The department provides a Bachelor of Science in Earth Sciences degree, available through five specialized tracks: Geography, Geographic Information Science/Planning, Geology, Paleontology, and Snow Science. Each program listed below combines coursework from the Department of Earth Sciences with external classes, some of which satisfy both departmental and University Core Curriculum criteria. Additionally, the department grants Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Earth Sciences. Graduate studies typically focus on geology, geography, or geobiology, with tailored course selections and research projects overseen by a faculty committee. The department also partners with the interdisciplinary Master of Science in Land Rehabilitation and the Ph.D. Program in Ecology and Environmental Science.
Freshmen will be considered for admission on the basis of their secondary school record and their English proficiency. Applicants who can prove their English language proficiency and have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5/4.0 on a U.S. scale will qualify for admission.
