Qualification Requirements

Graduate admissions are determined by the graduate committee, of which the chair is the graduate coordinator, and the faculty together. In general, the graduate admission criterion has four major components: academic credentials (GPA, school, etc.), letters of recommendation, and English proficiency test (GRE optional). Understandably, the academic credentials, including the BS major and university background, tend to be the most important factor. Plus, there is a minimum requirement of cumulative BS GPA at/above 3.0/4.0.
The department has recently made a decision to make GRE optional, meaning that GRE is no longer required for graduate applications but a good GRE score may be a tie breaker to favor one applicant over other competitors. For your reference, the previous GRE requirement is (V+Q)300 as a minimum.
2 Letters of Recommendation (thesis only)
Transcripts (in English) from all colleges and universities attended. All unofficial copies of transcripts and scores can be uploaded to your online application for S&T to review. Upon arrival on campus, you must request that an official copy of your transcript(s) to be sent to us directly from your previous university's registrar's office and all official scores reported directly from the respective testing agency. Once we receive the official documents, we will verify them. If there are any discrepancies between the unofficial documents you submitted, Missouri S&T will withdraw your admission and you will not be allowed to apply to S&T in the future.
A statement of purpose (personal statement) of 1,000 words or less on why you are interested in the program
A resume or curriculum vitae
Admission as a regular graduate student is normally limited to those who ranked in the upper third of their baccalaureate graduating class or who have done quality work at the graduate level. For this requirement, a cumulative B average (3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale), or a B average (3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale) for the student's last sixty credit hours of undergraduate coursework is considered equivalent to an upper one-third standing.
On the Personal Statement screen, you must submit a statement of 1,000 words or less on why youre interested in the program. This statement may include your educational goals, discussion of personal circumstances, and faculty you wish to work with.
