This certificate program focuses on developing exceptional care standards for children from infancy through eight years old. Coursework highlights inclusive family involvement and partnerships with local community services. The curriculum aligns with Core Competencies for Early Childhood and Youth Development programs in Missouri and Kansas, as well as national Child Development Associate training standards.

Missouri S&T's on-campus childcare facility offers hands-on learning opportunities for students pursuing careers with young children. The certificate enhances existing degree programs like elementary education and psychological sciences with specialized early childhood expertise. Professionals aiming to lead or work in preschools, daycare centers, or other youth educational environments would find this certification valuable.

While Missouri's early childhood teaching certification requires extra coursework including student teaching, finishing all certificate courses fulfills the educational component for the nationally recognized Child Development Associate credential. Earning the full credential involves additional evaluations and practical hours in childcare settings beyond this training program.

Qualification Requirements

Admission is selective and based on a combination of secondary school core curriculum (a set of required secondary school classes), ACT and/or SAT composite scores (if available), grade point average (GPA), and class rank percentile. (For non-ranking schools, GPA will be used to evaluate your application).
International students must fulfill the same admission requirements as domestic applicants, but standardized test scores (ACT or SAT) are not required but should be submitted if available. Meeting the minimum requirements, however, does not guarantee admission, nor does it guarantee admission to a particular program. Missouri S&T appreciates well-rounded students and evaluates each application individually.
Missouri S&T may request that you provide an official transcript evaluation from the World Education Services (WES). If this is required, it will be visible on your application checklist after submission of your application, or an admissions representative will contact you to request it.
Minimum English proficiency test score requirements are 80 for TOEFL, 6.5 for IELTS, 58 for PTE, or 105 for Duolingo. We also accept SAT ERW score minimum of 500.
