The English Education Option prepares future secondary English teachers, meeting the state's subject matter competency requirement for the Single Subject Teaching Credential. To demonstrate subject matter proficiency, English Education majors must maintain a grade of C or higher in all major-related coursework.
Program outlines for each specialization can be found on the Department website or obtained from the Department office. Students are encouraged to meet regularly with Department faculty advisors when selecting and progressing through their English degree programs. The Department of English can connect students with appropriate faculty advisors. Faculty office hours are displayed near the Department office, with information available about which advisors specialize in specific program options.ENGL 100B, a general education foundation course, doesn't count toward any English specialization. Certain options may allow or require courses from other departments with faculty advisor approval, and may include non-English courses. Since some courses fulfill requirements across multiple options, students can frequently switch specializations without losing substantial credit toward degree completion. Many students also pursue double majors within English by combining two options.
