When enrolling in the Physics graduate program, all students must complete placement tests covering classical mechanics, electromagnetic theory, and quantum mechanics. These assessments help evaluate whether students possess the necessary foundation for 8000-level coursework. Those who perform inadequately on any exam will need to enroll in the corresponding 6000-level class(es).
Within their first year, students must secure a research advisor and initiate their research work. After selecting an advisor, they should promptly assemble a Graduate Committee and develop a Graduate Program of Study.
Teaching assistants must participate in and successfully complete the Teaching Assistant Workshop. International students with teaching responsibilities must additionally attend and pass the International Teaching Assistant Workshop.
