The secondary education curriculum prepares future teachers for middle and high school certification. Students can specialize in subjects like English, math, biology, chemistry, physics, or social studies to earn their 7-12 grade teaching credentials.
Our department's primary mission is to develop exceptional educators for Mississippi schools while also training professionals for educational roles outside traditional K-12 settings. All program participants gain hands-on experience bridging educational theory with classroom practice through interactive learning opportunities.
The Physics Education program follows guidelines from the National Science Teachers Association and National Science Education Standards for secondary teacher preparation (grades 7-12). Note that classes intended for non-science majors cannot be applied toward science education degree requirements.
