The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Petroleum Engineering, offered by the Swalm School of Chemical Engineering, equips graduates with cutting-edge knowledge and skills to develop current global energy resources and pioneer innovative energy technologies for tomorrow.
Launched in the fall of 2015, the Petroleum Engineering B.S. program saw its inaugural class graduate in spring 2018. The industry's prospects have significantly improved in recent years, leading our alumni to pursue diverse roles within the oil and gas sectors.
Petroleum engineers specialize in designing, creating, and applying technologies to assess oil and gas reserves, predict recoverable resources accurately, employ advanced drilling and well treatment methods to maximize recovery, and ensure these operations are conducted sustainably, safely, and dependably.
According to the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in this field is projected to grow by 15 percent from 2016 to 2026, a rate much higher than the average for all jobs. Like other commodity-based industries, employment trends are strongly influenced by oil and gas prices, with typical business cycle variations anticipated.
