Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing (RS), and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) each play significant roles individually and together in geospatially-focused education. The Geosciences Department provides a geospatial program that forms part of a comprehensive Bachelor of Science degree, with supplementary courses selected from a designated list of university-wide restricted electives. This interdisciplinary approach with various colleges and departments proves advantageous for both instructors and learners.
Undergraduate students acquire fundamental geospatial competencies while also gaining expertise in object-oriented programming and relational/geo-database management. These capabilities are highly sought after in professional settings and for those continuing to graduate studies.
Alumni from the Geosciences GIS program will possess strong employment prospects and solid preparation for current and future career success. The curriculum undergoes continuous updates and adjustments to stay current with the fast-changing geospatial industry and address increasing needs for geospatial proficiency across public and private organizations.
