The Chemistry Department provides two undergraduate degree options: the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and Bachelor of Arts (B.A.), both requiring 124 credit hours for completion. These chemistry programs establish a strong academic base for pursuing advanced studies or careers in graduate education, teaching, healthcare fields like medicine and dentistry, pharmaceutical sciences, and various industrial roles.
The B.S. program features three specialized tracks: the American Chemical Society (ACS) certified track, Pre-Medical track, and Pre-Pharmacy track. The ACS-approved curriculum prepares students for industrial careers or advanced graduate work, with the department maintaining continuous ACS accreditation since 1941. The Pre-Medical track helps students fulfill medical school requirements, combining essential biology and chemistry coursework tailored for medical, dental, and professional school preparation, aligned with University of Mississippi Medical Center standards. The Pre-Pharmacy track meets University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy prerequisites, though students considering other pharmacy programs should consult their academic advisors about specific requirements.
