The Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Languages requires completing at least 123 semester hours, covering these components: (Graduation requirements may vary based on the student's starting proficiency in their primary language, with a minimum of eight 3-credit courses at the 3000-level or above in their chosen specialization.)
Please be aware that specific degree criteria differ across specializations. Students must ensure they fulfill the requirements for their selected program, as outlined below.
Taking a fourth-semester course in a secondary foreign language (12 credit hours) is advised. Alongside the main specializations (Asian Studies, Classics, French, German, and Spanish), the department provides instruction in Italian and Russian.
Participating in study abroad programs is strongly encouraged. Students pursuing a Foreign Language degree who wish to follow this recommendation should inform their advisor early to create a study plan that meets graduation criteria.

Qualification Requirements

Certified, translated copies of all transcripts, mark sheets, and diplomas from your school. Mississippi State recommends all school credentials from non-U.S. institutions be submitted through a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services member (NACES member agency, https://www.naces.org/members) for a course-by-course evaluation with grade point average calculation. MSU's preferred transcript evaluation service is TEC or MyIEE.
An official ACT score of 20 or higher, or SAT score of 1030 (only if your GPA is below 3.0 based on our evaluation of your transcripts OR if you are applying for scholarships).
International undergraduate students applying to Mississippi State University must demonstrate English language proficiency in order to register for academic courses. The following methods of a demonstration are approved:
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): minimum band score of 6.5.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): minimum 79 for Internet-based test
